Football Career Simulator Tips | Reach Legend Status

Football Career Simulator is a free, text-based soccer career game. You start at 16 on a youth contract at a fictional club's academy and play one season at a time until you retire. Your career card at the end gives you a legacy tier, from Prospect up to Greatest of All Time, and that score is what the weekly leaderboard ranks.
The difference between a Journeyman and a Club Legend is rarely luck. It comes from a handful of decisions the game asks you to make every season, and this guide walks through them in the order you meet them.

How the game decides how good you get
Three things matter before any tactic does:
- Overall rating (OVR) is a weighted average of seven attributes, and the weights depend on your position. A forward's OVR is 40% Shooting, 20% Pace, 20% Dribbling, 10% Physical and 10% Passing. A goalkeeper's is mostly Goalkeeping.
- Potential is a hidden ceiling. Growth slows as you get close to it and never goes through it.
- Squad role (Star, Starter, Rotation, Bench or Reserve) comes from your OVR compared with your club's strength, plus how much the manager trusts you. Your role decides your minutes.
Every tip below is really about one of those three numbers.
1. Minutes beat money when you are young
Young players grow fastest when they actually play. A teenager who starts every week develops far quicker than one sitting on the bench at a bigger club, even though the bigger club pays more. Better clubs do coach you a little better, so the ideal is a club strong enough to help you improve but weak enough that you start.
Practical rules for ages 16 to 22:
- Do not judge an offer by its wage. Judge it by the squad role shown next to it. Starter at a mid-table club beats Bench at a giant.
- Almost nobody plays at 16, and only a few cameos come at 17. Do not panic about a quiet first season.
- Your growth is front-loaded. Most of your improvement happens before your mid-twenties, so these are the seasons where a wrong move costs the most.
2. Take the loan if you are not playing
If you are 22 or younger, sitting on the bench or in the reserves, and still have more than a year left on your contract, the transfer window will often include a season-long loan to a weaker club. Take it. A loan gives you a season of real minutes and then returns you to your parent club, usually a better player than when you left. It is the single cleanest fix for a stalled young career.
3. Ask for minutes before you hand in a transfer request
Both actions sit in the club section, and they do very different things.
Ask for more minutes works when you are close to the level of the team. If your OVR is near your club's strength, the manager usually agrees and your trust jumps. If you are well below it, you will mostly be told to earn it in training, and trust drops.
Hand in a transfer request brings more clubs to the table in the summer window, but the manager will not like it and trust falls sharply. Use it when you have clearly outgrown your club, you are a Star, and the next step up will not come to you on its own. Do not use it as a way to escape the bench; a loan or a strong season is a better route.
4. Pick a training focus that matches your position
Each season you choose one attribute as your training focus, and it gets a bonus on top of normal growth. Point it at the attribute your position weighs most:
| Position | Train first | Then |
|---|---|---|
| Forward | Shooting | Pace, Dribbling |
| Midfielder | Passing | Dribbling, Shooting |
| Defender | Defending | Physical |
| Goalkeeper | Goalkeeping | Physical |
Training a forward's Defending feels well-rounded, but it barely moves your OVR, and OVR is what gets you picked. The focus bonus only applies while you are still improving, so it matters most in your teens and early twenties.
5. Manage fitness like a resource
Extra training sessions add growth and a little manager trust, but each one costs fitness. Low fitness raises your injury risk and reduces how many matches you are available for, which in turn cuts your minutes and your growth. A good rhythm for most seasons:
- One or two extra sessions when your fitness is high.
- A rest action whenever fitness is getting low, especially before a season you need to impress in.
- A personal chef once you can afford it, for better recovery every season, and a private physio for fewer injuries.
Story events, such as a hamstring scare or a night out before a derby, often trade fitness or trust for excitement. Think about what you need that season before you answer.
6. Climb toward clubs that finish top three
Trophies are where legacy points really pile up. A league title is worth a lot, and the Champions Cup, the continental club competition, is worth even more. Only the top three clubs in each top division qualify for it, so a move to a club that regularly finishes in the top three is often worth more than a bigger wage elsewhere. Hire a better agent when you can afford one: more clubs call, and the wages improve.
Promotion and relegation happen every season, so check where a club actually finished, not just which division it plays in.
7. Say yes to the captaincy
If you are a regular starter in your mid-twenties and the manager trusts you, a captaincy event can appear. Accepting raises your fame, the manager's trust and your morale. Higher trust protects your place in the team, and fame helps bigger clubs come for you later. There is very little reason to turn it down.
8. Play for your country
From 18 you can earn caps if your OVR is close to your national team's level. Caps count toward your legacy, and every few summers there is a World Championship or a Continental Championship. Winning one of those is the biggest single boost in the game. A stronger nation wins more often, but it is also harder to get into the squad, so a high OVR is the price of entry either way.
9. Buy the sports scientist before the decline
Decline starts around 30, and pace goes first, with physical following a couple of seasons later. A personal sports scientist slows that decline. It unlocks in your mid-twenties and has an upkeep every season, so the best time to hire one is when you are earning well and just before you hit 30. For a forward who relies on pace, it can be the difference between three more seasons as a starter and a slide to the bench.
10. Retire at the right moment
You can retire from 32, and everybody stops by 41. Your legacy score is built from appearances, goals or clean sheets, caps, trophies, individual awards and your peak OVR. Those totals only ever go up, so a late season never subtracts from your score. What it can do is add very little: a 36-year-old on the bench of a lower-division club gains almost nothing per season.
Good moments to retire:
- You have dropped to Bench or Reserve and the offers are coming from much weaker clubs.
- You have just won a major trophy and the next season looks like a step down.
- You have children and want to start the next generation.
11. Plan for the next generation
If you had children, you can continue as your son or daughter in the same world, with the same clubs and leagues. A stronger legacy gives your child a slightly better start, so a big first career makes the second one easier. The family name opens doors, but the same tips apply: find minutes, take the loan, train the right attribute.
