One Turret Tips | Best Weapons, Merges and Fusions

By PlayBrain Teamยทยท8 min read

One Turret is a free tower defense game where a single turret sits in the middle of the arena and fires on its own. Enemies walk in from every side. Each time the blue bar fills, the battle pauses and you pick one of three cards. Those picks are the whole game, and this guide covers how to make them well.

How the turret grows

The turret holds one of each weapon. Picking a weapon you do not have adds it at level 1. Picking a weapon you already hold merges the copy into it:

LevelCopies neededCopies merged in so far
211
323
447
5815

Every copy makes the weapon hit harder at once, so a copy is never wasted even when it does not finish a level. A card glows when that pick would finish a level. When a level-up is possible, one of the three cards is always one.

1. Focus two or three weapons

This is the single most important tip. Every pick goes to one weapon, so spreading your picks over many weapons leaves all of them weak. The game's own balance tests make the point clearly:

ApproachTypical furthest wave
Commit to three weaponsabout 16
Spread over five weaponsabout 13
Never upgrade a weaponabout 11
Stat cards onlyabout 9

Choose your two or three weapons in the first minute and keep feeding them. A level is roughly two and a half times the power of the one below, so one weapon at level 4 beats several at level 2.

2. Know what each weapon is for

You start with three weapons, and three more open as your best wave climbs (one new weapon per finished run at most). These six are the starting set; six more weapons come later, one at a time, as you finish missions (more on that below the table):

WeaponWhat it doesRoleOpens
CannonShoots the nearest enemy; later levels add barrels and piercing, ending as a RailgunDamageFrom the start
Shock CoilLightning that jumps between enemies close togetherDamage, crowdsFrom the start
Frost RingA pulse around the turret that slows and chipsSupportFrom the start
Guard OrbsOrbs that circle the turret and grind what they touchSupportBest wave 5
MortarLobs shells that burst in a wide blast, longest rangeDamageBest wave 8
LaserA steady beam on the toughest enemy in rangeBoss killerBest wave 12

After these six, finished missions open six more, in order: Flame Jet, Saw Blades, Missile Pod, Acid Sprayer, Gravity Well and Sniper. That makes twelve weapons in all, so expect a new one roughly every week of regular play.

A good default: two damage weapons plus one support. Cannon + Shock Coil + Frost Ring is a strong first build, because Frost Ring slows everything near the turret and buys the damage weapons time. Once the Laser opens, it is worth a place in any build that struggles with bosses.

3. Use the stat cards to fill gaps

Not every card is a weapon. Stat cards add to the whole turret:

  • Damage and Fire Rate make every weapon better at once.
  • Range lets the turret hit enemies earlier (it is capped, so it stops appearing after a few picks).
  • Repair heals the turret and raises its maximum health.

Take a weapon card when it moves one of your chosen weapons toward a level, and a stat card when the weapon choices on offer are all for weapons you are not building. Take Repair when the turret is low before a boss wave. Stat cards come in three rarities, shown by the border colour and a word on the card; rare and epic versions add noticeably more.

4. Build toward a fusion

A boss drops a chest: a special hand of three cards. Once two of your weapons are both at level 3 or more, the chest offers any fusion they qualify for. A fusion links two weapons you hold; both stay and keep levelling, and the fusion adds a new behaviour on top. There are fifteen fusions and every weapon is in at least two; these six are the ones the starting set can make:

FusionWeaponsWhat it adds
SuperconductorFrost Ring + Shock CoilLightning chills, jumps further and hits slowed enemies twice as hard
Cryo RoundsCannon + Frost RingBullets slow what they hit; slowed enemies that die burst
FlakCannon + MortarBullets burst in a small blast on impact
Tesla HaloGuard Orbs + Shock CoilLightning arcs between the orbs
Orbital LanceMortar + LaserA mortar strike lands on the Laser's target every few seconds
Prism OrbsLaser + Guard OrbsEvery orb fires its own small beam

This is another reason to focus: a fusion needs two weapons at level 3, which a spread build rarely reaches before the boss arrives. The starting trio already holds two recipes (Superconductor and Cryo Rounds), so the default build above sets up a fusion naturally.

5. Spend coins on Damage and Armor first

Every run pays coins, win or lose, so even a short run moves you forward. Spend them in Upgrades:

UpgradeWhat it does
DamageMore weapon damage on every run
ArmorMore turret health
SalvageMore coins from every run
Head StartFree picks at the start of a run

Damage and Armor are cheap at first and help immediately. Salvage pays for itself over many runs, so buy it once the first levels of Damage and Armor are done. Head Start is expensive but gives you picks before the first wave, which makes it easier to commit to a build early. More upgrades open as you clear stages.

6. Stages, bosses and Endless

The first level is a short three-wave tutorial. After it, the game opens up: 200 stages across five arenas (the Foundry, the Mire, the Dunes, the Glacier and the Night), each ending when you destroy its named boss. After your first few runs Endless opens too, where the waves never stop and a boss arrives every fifth wave.

If a stage keeps beating you, do not keep replaying it with the same build. Spend your coins, try a different pair of focus weapons, or aim for the fusion that answers what is killing you: Frost Ring fusions for fast swarms, the Laser for tough bosses.

Quick checklist

  • Pick your two or three weapons early and feed them.
  • Take the glowing card when a pick finishes a level.
  • Use stat cards when the weapon cards are for weapons you are not building.
  • Aim for a fusion once two weapons reach level 3.
  • Spend coins after every run, Damage and Armor first.

Frequently Asked Questions about One Turret Tips | Best Weapons, Merges and Fusions

What is the best weapon in One Turret?
There is no single best weapon; what matters is focusing your picks. Two damage weapons plus one support works well, for example Cannon, Shock Coil and Frost Ring. The Laser, which opens at best wave 12, is the strongest answer to bosses because it locks on to the toughest enemy in range.
How does merging work in One Turret?
The turret holds one of each weapon, so picking a weapon you already have merges the copy into it. Level 2 takes 1 copy, level 3 takes 2 more, level 4 takes 4 and level 5 takes 8. Every copy makes the weapon hit harder straight away, and a card glows when that pick would finish a level.
How do you get fusions in One Turret?
Get two weapons that share a recipe to level 3 or higher, then destroy a boss. Its chest offers every fusion your turret qualifies for. Both weapons stay and keep levelling, and the fusion adds a new behaviour, such as Superconductor (Frost Ring and Shock Coil) or Flak (Cannon and Mortar).
What should I buy first with coins?
Damage and Armor. They are cheap at first and make every run stronger. Salvage, which raises the coins each run pays, is worth buying next, and Head Start gives free picks at the start of a run.
Is One Turret free to play?
Yes. One Turret is free in your browser on PlayBrain, with no download and no sign-up. PlayBrain is supported by ads shown around the game. Your coins, upgrades and stages save in the browser you play in.
