Understanding the Layers

Deep Mine has 50 layers split into six distinct zones:

Each deeper zone has harder rock (layers multiply in hardness by 1.15× per layer). This means miners and drills that felt fast at layer 5 will feel sluggish at layer 20. You need to invest in power before descending — not after stalling.

Boss layers sit at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. You cannot advance past them without defeating the boss through sustained clicking and miner damage.

Best Upgrade Order (Early Game, First Run)

The core principle: miners first, then drills, then processing. Miners generate active income while you play; drills add passive income even when idle.

Optimal order for your first run:

1. Hire Miner (x3) — your first priority, always. Three miners vs one is almost 3× the ore per minute.
2. Ore Refinery (x3) — cheapest source of permanent ore value (+10% per level). Stack these early.
3. Miner Speed (x2) — miners walk back to sell, then return. Speed cuts this dead time dramatically.
4. Basic Drill (x5+) — unlock at layer 3, passive income you can stack while offline.
5. Auto-Sell — costs 2,000 coins, unlocks at layer 4. This is a must-buy. Manual selling is a huge time drain.
6. Smelter (x3) — auto-sells ores at +25% bonus. Stacks with Ore Refinery for big value gains.
7. Auto-Descend — 5,000 coins, layer 8. Once you're past mid-Stone, let the game push you down automatically.
8. Geology — reveals ore types before mining, so miners and auto-click skip worthless dirt and target rubies.

Skip for now: Diamond Drill (50,000 coins), Laser Drill (200,000), Quantum Mining (100,000). These are mid-to-late game investments that don't pull their weight until run 2+.

Golden Vein Strategy

Every 2–5 minutes, a golden vein appears somewhere in the mine. You have only 10 seconds to click it. Miss it and it disappears.

Golden veins are worth 5× to 20× the normal ore value for that layer. At deep layers (emerald+ ores worth 300–5,000 base coins), a single golden vein can be worth tens of thousands of coins.

How to maximize golden vein value:

• Be in the deepest layer you can sustain when a golden vein appears. A void crystal golden vein (5,000 base × 20× multiplier = 100,000 coins per click) dwarfs an iron one (10 × 5× = 50 coins).
• Don't descend right before a predicted golden vein. Veins spawn based on your active layer — if you're transitioning layers mid-vein, you lose it.
• The Vein Detector gem shop upgrade makes golden veins appear 20% more often per level. Buy it early in gem shop.
• The Crystal Lens artifact (prestige tier 3) makes veins appear 50% more often AND last 50% longer. This is the strongest golden vein investment in the game.
• The Gold Rush achievement (click 10 golden veins) gives a permanent +10% coin multiplier. Click every vein you see.

When to First Prestige (Gems Tier)

You can prestige for Gems once you reach layer 15 or deeper. Gems are permanent currency that persist across all runs — the foundation of your long-term progress.

First prestige timing rules:

• Don't prestige at exactly layer 15. Push to layer 18–20 first so you get significantly more gems.
• The gem yield scales with how deep you've gone and how many ores you've mined. A layer-20 prestige yields roughly 3–4× more gems than a layer-15 prestige.
• Prestige when progress stalls — if it takes more than 10 real minutes to clear a single layer, you're past the efficient frontier. Prestige and use gems to smooth the next run.

Gem shop priority order (first prestige):

1. Head Start (gem_start_coins) — start each run with 500 coins per level. At level 5, that's 2,500 free coins, enough to hire 3 miners on run start.
2. Gem Appraisal (gem_ore_value) — permanent +20% ore value per level. Stacks multiplicatively with everything.
3. Miner Barracks (gem_start_miners) — start with a free miner per level. At max (5 miners), you begin every run with a full crew.
4. Night Shift (gem_offline) — +25% offline earnings per level. If you sleep or go to work between sessions, this pays for itself fast.
5. Gem Pickaxe (gem_click_power) — only invest here after the above four are level 3+.

Boss Tips

Bosses appear at layers 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50. Each boss has a massive HP pool that requires sustained damage from both clicks and miners.

Boss gear priority before each boss layer:

• Golem Slayer achievement (defeat Stone Golem): +15% permanent click power. Fight every boss even if slow.
• Boss Slayer gem shop upgrade: +30% boss damage per level. Invest 1–2 levels before the Crystal Guardian.
• Miner Toughness: miners can't function in deep, hard layers without this. Max it by layer 15.
• Relic Boss Bypass: if you've defeated a boss before, this relic upgrade lets you skip it on future runs. Massive time save after your second prestige.

After earning 100+ gems, you can prestige again for Relics — the second tier of permanent upgrades.

2. Coin Amplifier — all coin income +100% per level. This is the strongest single scaling upgrade in the game.
3. Gem Magnifier — earn 50% more gems per prestige. Speeds up your gem accumulation curve significantly.
4. Boss Bypass — skip already-defeated bosses on new runs. Saves 10–30 minutes per boss layer per run.
5. Auto-Prestige — once you know your optimal prestige depth, this automates the prestige loop entirely. Late game only.

After earning 10+ relics, you unlock Artifacts — the rarest and most powerful upgrades.
