Strategy Guide: How to Score High

1. Keep the Board Flat

The biggest mistake new players make is building up tall stacks in the corners. Isolated columns or rows that are almost-but-not-quite full become dead zones that are nearly impossible to clear later. Aim for an even, flat board where every region has room for future pieces.

2. Think Three Moves Ahead

You can see all three current pieces before you place the first one. Before touching anything, look at the set and plan the order that opens the most space. Sometimes you need to place the awkward piece first to make room for the easier two.

3. Hunt for Multi-Line Combos

Clearing one line at a time is fine, but clearing two rows and a column simultaneously is where the real points are. Set up potential line clears on both axes at the same time. When a single well-placed piece triggers multiple clears, your score multiplies.

4. Protect the Corners

Corners are hardest to clear because pieces need to fill from both directions. Avoid filling corner cells with single isolated blocks that prevent rows and columns from completing. Treat corners as premium spots that earn their place.

5. Know When to Take a Suboptimal Placement

Sometimes the ideal spot for a piece would be perfect for the next turn, but taking a slightly worse position now keeps the board healthier overall. Board health matters more than any single turn.
