Swordbound is a free action roguelike you play in your browser. You steer a sword hero through a land of fifteen rooms full of monsters. Stand still and the hero strikes the nearest monster with a flying sword wave; move to dodge their attacks. Clear a room and the door opens to the next one.
How do I control the hero?
On a phone or tablet, drag anywhere on the arena and a joystick appears under your finger. On a computer use WASD or the arrow keys, or hold the mouse button and drag. The hero only attacks while standing still, so the game is about moving out of danger and stopping at the right moment.
What are abilities?
Monsters drop experience. Each new level pauses the fight and offers three abilities, such as Twin Wave, Multishot, Ricochet, Fire Blade, Orbit Blades or Extra Life. They stack into a build that lasts for the run. Shrine rooms offer a choice between resting and another ability.
What happens when I die?
The run ends, but you keep the gold and any gear you found. Spend gold on attack and health levels, upgrade or merge your gear, then try the land again and get further.
How does gear work?
There are four slots: weapon, armour, ring and charm. Every item has a rarity, from Common to Legendary, and can be levelled up with gold. Three identical items of the same rarity merge into one of the next rarity. Mini-bosses and land bosses drop the best gear.
Is Swordbound free?
Yes. Swordbound is free to play on PlayBrain with no download and no sign-up. Your progress saves in this browser, and your patrol keeps earning gold while you are away.
About Swordbound
Swordbound is an action roguelike for the browser in the spirit of mobile hits like Archero. You guide a young sword hero through eight lands, from a sunny meadow to a castle in the sky, one room at a time. Monsters charge, shoot and lob attacks at you, always with a warning first, and the hero only strikes while standing still, so every room is a rhythm of stepping out of danger and stopping to fight. Each level-up offers three abilities that stack into a different build every run: more sword waves, ricochets, burning blades, orbiting swords or a second life. Room ten holds a mini-boss and room fifteen the land boss. Between runs, spend your gold on hero levels and equip and merge gear from common to legendary.
