Pips

🎲

Place dominoes on the grid so each colored region's pip total matches its target number. Think carefully about which domino goes where!

How to Play Pips

Place all the dominoes from the tray onto the grid. Each domino is a 1x2 tile with pip (dot) values on each half.

Regions: The grid is divided into colored regions, each with a target number. The pip values of all domino halves in a region must sum to exactly that target.

Placing: Click a domino in the tray to select it, then click an empty cell on the grid. Click a selected domino again (or press R) to rotate it.

Removing: Click any placed domino on the board to pick it back up and return it to the tray. Use Undo to step back moves.

Checking: When all dominoes are placed, click Check to see if your solution is correct. Regions with wrong totals will be highlighted in red.

Frequently Asked Questions about Pips

How do I play Pips?
Place dominoes onto the grid so that each colored region's pip total matches its target number. Each domino is a 1x2 tile with pip values (dots) on each half. Drag dominoes from the tray onto the grid, and click or tap a domino to rotate it before placing.
What are the rules of the Pips puzzle?
Each colored region on the grid has a target number displayed. You must place dominoes so the pip values in each region sum exactly to that target. Dominoes cannot overlap or go outside the grid. Every empty cell must be covered by a domino half.
Is the Pips game free to play online?
Yes! Pips on PlayBrain is completely free to play in your browser. No downloads, no sign-ups needed. Play the daily puzzle or unlimited practice puzzles across three difficulty levels.
What is the best strategy for solving Pips puzzles?
Start with the smallest regions since they have fewer domino placement options. Look for regions where the target number heavily constrains which pip values can fit. Use the process of elimination: if a region needs a high total, it must contain high-pip domino halves.
Can I play Pips on my phone?
Yes! Pips on PlayBrain is fully touch-friendly. Tap a domino in the tray to select it, tap again to rotate, then tap a grid cell to place it. It works great on any mobile browser without needing to download an app.

About Pips

Pips is a dice-based strategy game where you score points by making clever combinations with rolled dice, similar to Yahtzee but with unique scoring mechanics and a fresh visual style. Each turn you roll a set of dice and choose which to keep and which to re-roll, up to three rolls per turn. After rolling, you assign your dice to one of several scoring categories, each rewarding different combinations like pairs, three of a kind, full houses, straights, and the coveted five of a kind. Strategic category selection is crucial because each category can only be used once per game, and choosing the wrong moment to fill a high-value category can cost you points later. The game tracks your best scores and average performance, letting you see your strategic improvement over time.

How to Play

  1. Roll the dice and decide which ones to keep for your combination
  2. Re-roll unwanted dice up to two more times per turn
  3. Assign your final dice to a scoring category that maximizes your points
  4. Fill all categories by the end of the game to calculate your total score
