Pattern Match

Memorize the pattern and recreate it. Each level gets harder!

How to Play

  • 1.Press Start Game to begin. A grid will appear with certain cells highlighted in purple.
  • 2.Memorize the pattern before the timer runs out. The pattern is shown for a few seconds, then hidden.
  • 3.Click on the cells you remember to recreate the pattern. Selected cells turn blue. Click again to deselect.
  • 4.Press Submit to check your answer. Correct matches advance you to the next level with a bigger grid and more cells to remember.
  • 5.One mistake and it's game over! Green cells are correct, red cells are wrong selections, and outlined cells are ones you missed.

Tips

  • --Look for shapes -- Instead of memorizing individual cells, try to see the overall shape or pattern the highlighted cells form (L-shape, diagonal, cluster, etc.).
  • --Use spatial anchoring -- Note where the pattern sits relative to corners and edges of the grid.
  • --Count as you go -- Keep track of how many cells you have selected versus how many you need. The counter below the grid helps.
  • --Row by row -- For larger grids, try scanning and memorizing one row at a time from top to bottom.
  • --Practice regularly -- Visual memory improves with consistent training. Play daily for best results.

About Pattern Match

Pattern recognition is considered one of the core components of human intelligence. Psychologists use matrix reasoning tests like Raven's Progressive Matrices to measure fluid intelligence, the ability to solve novel problems without relying on prior knowledge. This game presents visual patterns with increasing complexity, testing your ability to identify rules governing shape, color, position, and sequence. Regular practice strengthens abstract reasoning skills that transfer to math, logic, and everyday problem solving. Each round raises the difficulty so you are always working at the edge of your ability.

How to Play

  1. Study the pattern of highlighted cells shown briefly on the grid.
  2. After the pattern disappears, click the cells you remember to recreate it.
  3. Patterns involve shapes, colors, rotations, and sequences that grow more complex each round.
  4. Difficulty increases as you progress with more cells and shorter display times. Reaching round 8+ shows strong visual memory.
