How do you play Odd Artist Out?
Everyone in the room is shown a category. All but one player also see the secret word. Players take turns adding to a single shared drawing of the word, then everyone votes on who they think is the odd artist, the player who never knew the word. If the odd artist is caught, they get one guess at the word and win if they get it right.
How many players do you need?
Between 3 and 8 players. It is best with 5 or 6, where the odd artist has enough drawings to learn from and enough company to hide in.
Do I need an account or a download?
No. The host creates a room and shares the link or the 4-letter code. Everyone else just opens it and types a name.
How do we talk to each other?
The game has no chat on purpose. Play in the same room or on a voice call (Discord, WhatsApp, Zoom). Arguing about who drew that suspicious squiggle is the best part.
What is the difference between One stroke and Timed turns?
The host picks before the game. One stroke means you draw a single continuous line and your turn ends when you lift your finger or mouse. Timed means you can draw as many lines as you like for 3 to 20 seconds. One stroke is harder to bluff and harder to give away; Timed is more relaxed.
How does scoring work?
If the odd artist escapes the vote, or is caught but guesses the word, they score 2 points. If they are caught and guess wrong, every artist scores 1 point. A tied vote counts as the odd artist escaping.
What happens if someone's connection drops?
Their seat and score are kept for 2 minutes. Reopening the page on the same device puts them straight back in, with the drawing so far. If it is their turn, it is skipped when the timer runs out.

About Odd Artist Out

Odd Artist Out is a hidden-role drawing game for a group of friends. Everyone contributes to the same picture of a secret word, except one player who was only told the category. The fun comes from a double bluff: the real artists have to draw clearly enough to prove they know the word, but vaguely enough that the odd artist cannot work it out from their lines. The odd artist has to add something that fits without knowing what the picture is meant to be.

Rounds take a few minutes. There is no drawing talent involved; a wobbly line in the right place is worth more than a beautiful one that gives the game away.

How to play

  1. The host creates a room, picks the number of laps and the turn style, and shares the link.
  2. Each round, everyone sees the category and all but one player see the secret word.
  3. Players take turns adding to one shared canvas, going around the group once per lap.
  4. Everyone votes at the same time for who they think the odd artist is.
  5. If the odd artist gets the most votes, they have 30 seconds to guess the word and steal the win.

Tips

As an artist, draw a detail, not the outline. The first stroke of a lighthouse should not be a lighthouse. A single beam of light proves you know without telling.

As the odd artist, go late and go small. Every stroke before yours is a clue, and a small addition to someone else's shape is hard to call out.

Watch the hesitation. On timed turns, the player who waits before touching the canvas is often reading everyone else's lines first.
