Frequently Asked Questions about Match Three

How do you play Match Three?
Swap two adjacent gems by clicking or tapping them to create a line of 3 or more matching gems in a row or column. Matched gems disappear, new gems fall in from the top, and cascading combos can happen automatically.
Is Match Three free to play?
Yes, it is 100% free in your browser. No downloads, no in-app purchases, no account required. All levels and features are completely free to enjoy.
How do cascading combos work?
When matched gems disappear, the remaining gems fall down to fill the gaps. If this creates new lines of 3 or more, those match automatically. Chains of cascading matches earn bonus points and can lead to massive combos.
Is Match Three similar to Candy Crush?
Yes, Match Three follows the same core mechanic as Candy Crush and Bejeweled. Swap adjacent pieces to create lines of matching items. If you enjoy those games, you will feel right at home with this free browser version.
What tips help you get a higher score?
Look for moves near the bottom of the board since matches there cause more cascades above. Try to set up chain reactions by positioning gems so that one match triggers another. Planning two moves ahead makes a big difference.

About Match Three

Match-3 games originated with Shariki in 1994 and were popularized worldwide by Bejeweled in 2001 and Candy Crush Saga in 2012. Candy Crush alone has generated over $20 billion in lifetime revenue, proving the universal appeal of this simple mechanic. The core idea of swapping adjacent pieces to form groups of three or more matching colors is intuitive enough for anyone to pick up, yet deeply strategic at higher levels. Chain reactions and cascading combos, where one match triggers another as gems fall into place, create satisfying moments that keep players coming back. PlayBrain's version captures this timeless formula with level progression and score tracking, completely free in your browser.
