Frequently Asked Questions about Speed Checkers

What is Speed Checkers?
Speed Checkers is Checkers with a 30-second timer per move. If your timer runs out before you move, you forfeit the game. It adds urgency and excitement to the classic strategy game.
How does the timer work in Speed Checkers?
Each player gets 30 seconds to make their move. The timer resets to 30 seconds after each move. A visual bar shows your remaining time, turning yellow at 10 seconds and red at 5 seconds. If it hits zero, you lose.
Does the timer run during the AI's turn?
No, the timer pauses while the AI is thinking. It only counts down during your turn, so you always get the full 30 seconds to decide your move.
Can I play Speed Checkers with a friend?
Yes! Choose the 'vs Friend' mode to play locally with two players sharing the same screen. Both players get their own 30-second timer each turn.
What are good strategies for Speed Checkers?
Think ahead during your opponent's turn so you already have a plan. Prioritize forced captures since those decisions are automatic. Avoid complex board positions that require long analysis. Practice standard Checkers first to build pattern recognition.
Is Speed Checkers harder than regular Checkers?
The rules are identical, but the time pressure makes it significantly more challenging. You need to balance speed with accuracy. Quick decisions under pressure can lead to blunders, making the game more dynamic and exciting.

About Speed Checkers

Speed Checkers takes the classic game of Checkers and cranks up the intensity with a 30-second move timer. Every turn becomes a high-stakes decision as the clock counts down. The rules are identical to standard Checkers: pieces move diagonally, captures are mandatory, and reaching your opponent's back row promotes a piece to king. The difference is that hesitation costs you the game. If your timer hits zero, you forfeit immediately. This format rewards players who can read the board quickly and think several moves ahead under pressure. PlayBrain's Speed Checkers features three AI difficulty levels, a local two-player mode, and a visual timer bar that shifts from green to yellow to red as time runs out.

How to Play

  1. Click one of your pieces to select it, then click a valid diagonal square to move.
  2. You have 30 seconds per move. The timer bar shows your remaining time.
  3. Jump over an opponent's piece diagonally to capture it. Multiple jumps in one turn are allowed.
  4. Reach your opponent's back row to promote a piece to king (moves forward and backward).
  5. Win by capturing all opponent pieces, blocking all their moves, or waiting for their timer to expire.
