What Is Vex?

Vex is a stick figure platformer from the Flash game era. You run a small stick figure through obstacle courses full of spikes, gaps, and moving platforms. The defining mechanic is wall jumping: jump into a wall while falling, then jump again to launch yourself sideways and upward. This lets you climb shafts that would otherwise be impassable.

The original Flash version stopped working when browsers dropped Flash support in 2020. This browser version recreates the same gameplay using modern HTML5 Canvas โ€” no plugins, no download, no sign-up.

How to Play Vex

Controls (Desktop):

  • Arrow keys or A/D โ€” move left/right
  • Space, Up, or W โ€” jump
  • Wall jump โ€” jump while pressed against a wall to bounce off it

Controls (Mobile):

  • Left/Right buttons โ€” move
  • JUMP button โ€” jump and wall jump

Objective: Reach the gold star portal at the end of each Act.

The 5 Acts

Act I โ€“ First Steps

The tutorial act. Platform gaps to jump, a handful of floor spikes, and two checkpoints. Gets you comfortable with movement and basic jumping before anything fancy.

Act II โ€“ Spike Alley

Spikes cluster up in this act. You also meet your first moving platform โ€” a purple block that slides back and forth over a gap. Wait for it to be in position, then time your jump.

Act III โ€“ Moving Ground

Multiple moving platforms, including one that moves vertically. You spend most of this act hopping between platforms in motion. Rhythm and patience matter more than raw speed.

Act IV โ€“ Wall Runner

Two vertical shafts require wall jumping to climb. There are ceiling spikes above the exit ledges to force precision. The trickier act โ€” take your time learning the shaft geometry.

Act V โ€“ Endgame

Everything from the previous four acts at once: spike runs, moving platforms, a wall-jump shaft, and a long final dash to the exit. You can replay individual acts from the settings menu once you have unlocked them.

Wall Jumping Tips

Wall jumping is the skill that separates average players from good ones:

  1. Run into the wall, don't approach at an angle.
  2. The moment you touch the wall and start sliding, press jump.
  3. Press the opposite direction as you jump to build speed away from the wall.
  4. In tight shafts, alternate left wall โ†’ right wall โ†’ left wall to zigzag upward.

The timing window is generous. If you miss, just slide back down and try again โ€” you will not lose a life for touching a wall.

Checkpoints

Green flag markers throughout each Act save your position. Touch them as you pass. If you die, you respawn at the last checkpoint you hit, not the act start. The death counter tracks attempts but there is no limit โ€” try as many times as you need.

Frequently Asked Questions about Vex Unblocked | Free Platformer No Download

How do you wall jump in Vex?
Run into a wall while in the air. As soon as you touch the wall and start sliding down, press jump to bounce off in the opposite direction. In a narrow shaft, alternate between left and right walls to climb higher than a single jump allows.
Is Vex really unblocked at school?
Yes โ€” this version runs entirely in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. No Flash, no download, no install. It loads on any school Chromebook or restricted network that allows regular websites.
How many levels does Vex have?
This version has 5 Acts. Each Act is a progressively harder obstacle course. Act I teaches basic jumps. Act V throws all mechanics at you simultaneously. Completed acts are unlocked in the settings menu so you can replay any act.
What happens when you die in Vex?
You respawn at the last checkpoint flag you touched. If you have not reached a checkpoint, you restart from the beginning of that Act. There is no life limit โ€” you can try indefinitely. Deaths are counted so you can see your improvement.
Does Vex save progress between sessions?
Yes. Your furthest Act completion is saved to your browser's local storage. The next time you open the game, you can jump directly to any Act you have already cleared via the Settings menu.
