What Is a Reflex Test?
A reflex test measures how long it takes you to respond to a stimulus. You click the moment you see (or hear) a signal, and the test records the gap between signal and response. That gap is your reaction time, measured in milliseconds.
Most people fall between 200-300ms for simple visual stimuli. Trained gamers, athletes, and musicians tend to skew toward the lower end. Fatigue, age, and distraction push numbers higher.

1. Visual Reflex
The screen flashes a color. You click as fast as you can. This is "simple reaction time" โ the fastest type of reflex your brain can execute because there is no decision to make. Just see and respond.

Visual reflex time is what most reaction time tests measure. It is a baseline indicator of how quickly your nervous system processes visual information.
2. Audio Reflex
A beep sounds. You click. Same concept as visual, but processed through your auditory system instead of your visual cortex.
Interesting science fact: Most people react about 20-40ms faster to sound than to light. Auditory signals take a shorter neural pathway to reach the motor cortex. This is why starting pistols are used in sprint events instead of starting lights.
Average audio reaction time: 200-220ms
Excellent: Under 180ms

3. Choice Reaction
Two buttons appear. You must press the correct one based on which side the signal appears. This is "choice reaction time" โ significantly slower than simple reaction time because your brain must process the signal AND decide which action to take.
Average choice reaction time: 300-400ms
Excellent: Under 270ms
Choice reaction time is the most practically relevant of the three. Drivers deciding whether to brake or swerve, athletes choosing which direction to move, gamers selecting which ability to activate โ these are all choice reaction tasks.
How to Read Your Score

Do not judge yourself on a single attempt. Take five rounds and average the results. Outliers happen: a stray click, a visual prediction, a sneeze.
Factors That Affect Your Score
Time of day. Most people's reaction time peaks in the afternoon. Morning tests often run 20-30ms slower than afternoon tests.
Caffeine. A moderate dose of caffeine (one coffee) measurably improves reaction time by 10-30ms in most people.
Sleep. Reaction time degrades sharply with sleep deprivation. One bad night can add 50-100ms to your average.
Practice. Repeated reflex testing improves your score over time โ not because your nervous system gets faster, but because you learn to relax and eliminate hesitation.
Age. Reaction time peaks around age 24 and slowly increases from there. The decline is gradual and largely offset by better focus and anticipation.
Tips to Improve Your Reflex Test Score
Practice daily, briefly. Five minutes of reflex training per day beats one 30-minute session per week. Consistency builds neural pathways faster than volume.
Relax your hand. Tension in your clicking hand slows you down. Your hand should be light and ready, not gripped tight.
Breathe normally. Holding your breath increases muscle tension. Breathe through the test.
Do not anticipate. Clicking before the signal (a false start) will skew your results. Focus on reacting to the actual signal, not guessing when it will come. The test uses randomized delays specifically to prevent anticipation.
Try all three modes. Visual, audio, and choice reaction use different neural pathways. Training all three gives you a more complete picture of your reflex system.
